Join AFSI for the American Friends of Sderot Annual Dinner

Meadowlands Hilton - 2 Meadowlands Plaza, East Rutherford, NJ

AFSI was in Sderot and invites you to share in the experience!

Sderot - the city in the south that has suffered more rocket and mortar attacks than any other city in Israel, was the destination of the AFSI Chizuk mission for the weekend of Oct. 31 - Nov. 1, 2014. Rabbi Dov Fendel, head of the Sderot Hesder Yeshiva, greeted us upon arrival and made us supremely comfortable and welcome during our stay. Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat with 500 Yeshiva boys was joyous and inspiring. Dinner was exceptional, with the Mayor of Sderot, Alon Davidi, joining us with his mother, wife and seven children, along with Rabbi Fendel and his parents. Shabbat Lech Lecha was special, with AFSI identifying itself with HaShem's command to Abraham to go and walk the land - which is something AFSI does in a modified manner, being driven everywhere by Ami Dadon, our trusted bus driver. The recognition that this remarkable land must be experienced first-hand is something that AFSI has supported through 40 missions to Israel over a period of the past 20 years.

From the rooftop of the Yeshiva we were able to view the remarkable growth of the city despite the barrage of rockets to which it is almost constantly subjugated. A visit to the Sderot police station enabled us to see the rocket and mortar display that shows just a small percentage of the weapons targeted at the city over the years. During the Shalosh Seudot, Rabbi Fendel showed us dozens of photos of the soldiers who had been housed at the Yeshiva during Operation Protective Edge this past summer. Clearly, the Sderot Hesder Yeshiva was home away from home for the soldiers. A huge yasher koach is offered to the staff and students of the Yeshiva for their incredible support during such difficult times. Shabbat concluded with a beautiful ceremony where the Yeshiva boys formed a circle outdoors and sang songs ushering out the Shabbat, followed by a moving Havdalah service.

Feeling as close to the Sderot Yeshiva as we do, we are so pleased to invite all AFSI members, along with their families and friends, to attend the Sderot Yeshiva dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 6 P.M., at the Meadowlands Hilton in N.J. Special rates are available for AFSI members and car pools are being arranged. Call the office: 212-828-2424.

Iran - What is the Endgame?

Iran is racing toward a nuclear weapon and the US under the Obama administration is placing its faith in endless negotiations, desperate for a deal.

Two pieces in Commentary Magazine, one by Jonathan Tobin and one by Michael Rubin, look at this critical issue and call attention to the dangers of a nuclear Iran to Israel, the European continent, and the United States.
